Catch Up

Feel like I haven't blogged in ages and that's probably because I haven't! so there we go! thought I'd do a catch up blog on everything I've been looking into.

Within my research of literature I found 4 main areas around the topic of mental health in performing, these were education, medical professionals, perfomers themselves and societal lens. I therefore used my literature review to explore these 4 areas, and to compare and contrast what others had said around those topics. What I found was that barely anyone had looked into the effects on mental health specifically in musical theatre and that there had been some research done into the intolerance of uncertainty but not extensively. I've therefore I THINK! come to my inquiry title...I THINK.

Please tell me what you think to it, or whether it can be phrased in a better way! <3

'When faced with the uncertainty of work in Musical Theatre, do performers have an increase in anxiety and stress?'

OR

'Is a performer's mental health impacted when faced with the uncertainty of work in Musical Theatre, specifically looking into anxiety and stress'

something along those lines anyway!

I've now started my proposal and am finding I write about 100 words and then my brain goes to pot! I'm just going to take it ONE TINY SECTION at a time! and hopefully I'll get through it haha!

Short but sweet blog for a Thursday morning.

  1. Hi Laura, I know what you mean, I feel like I haven't blogged in ages! It also took me a while to pin-point an inquiry title, I really like your ideas though. Hope the proposal is going well :)

  2. I can totally relate to writing 100 words then your brain goes to pot! As we approach the end of the module I am certainly feeling rather frazzled but proud of some of the stuff I've achieved.
Love your topic idea Laura. I hope its all come together and your M2 work is going well so far?

  3. Hi Laura, I am really interested in your topic, especially with identifying as a musical theatre performer. I have always struggled with the unknown aspect of the industry. I am so happy obviously when I am employed and in a job I love, but when that is over its literally feels like the end of the world and back to square one. This pandemic has certainly highlighted that feeling for me!

Also I know what you mean by the brain fog and writers block!! Totally relate to that haha!
